Chan & Naylor began in 1985 as a Partnership between Edward Chan and David Naylor and was incorporated in 1990. Having met whilst working together with a Chartered Accountancy firm, they decided to start Chan & Naylor Accounting because of what they saw as a failing on the part of the usual accountancy practice.
They identified a definite lack of expertise from accountants in servicing their clients in the areas of Asset Protection, Wealth Creation particularly via property investing, Estate Planning and Tax Planning. Starting with a few clients, mainly family and friends, they consistently grew the business by referrals and later, as word spread, augmented the referrals with promotional seminars and products to assist customers. Today Chan & Naylor ranks in the top BRW 100 Accountancy firms in Australia and as Number One in Business Review Weekly's list of fastest growing accountancy practices.
Because of their passion for real estate and small business and their drive and desire to help their "mum and dad" clients grow wealthy, Chan & Naylor developed a unique point of difference which saw the firm grow tremendously through word of mouth referrals only. Today, this point of difference is what has created 6,000 loyal clients able to create and protect their wealth and ensure that it can be handed down from generation to generation through clever estate and tax planning strategies.
Ed Chan and David Naylor created a business culture that encompassed honesty and integrity and doing the best possible for their clients. As their reputation grew, the firm and it's methods was featured in various magazines articles and interviews (BRW, Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Property Investors). The partners became mentors to other accountants and still today, feature regularly on radio, television and at seminars and expos all around Australia.
Their culture and values won accolades throughout the industry and Chan & Naylor was asked to present their "Best Practice" culture right around Australia with the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Institute of Accountants, Sage Software and other industry organisations. Additionally, Chan has been flown to Canberra by The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to be the Keynote Speaker at their Annual National Directors Conference.
Edward Chan and David Naylor created and launched Business Intranet Systems, a software package that enables all systems, procedures, processes and policies in an accounting practice, to be centralised in one location for easy and efficient access by all staff. With this in operation they co-founded Eknowhow Accounting where their practice procedures and philosophies were adopted by over 1000 Accountancy Firms right around Australia. By exporting best practice methodologies via Intranet and Website and incorporating these systems with "Management Principles for Accountancy Firms" Chan and Naylor expanded their operations and brand recognition whilst helping other accountancy firms across Australia.
Chan & Naylor has partnered with Handisoft, a large provider of software to over 6000 Accountancy Firms around Australia, to develop a module called "Best Practice" a "plug in" infrastructure of centralised document management system that assists accountants run their practices efficiently.
As a result of these successful involvements Chan & Naylor were asked to partake in a 3 year study held by the University of Queensland into Best Practice Management amongst Accountancy Firms. The study results were incorporated into a course study subject called "Knowledge Management" which is currently a module of the MBA degree with the University of Queensland and features Chan & Naylor as the benchmark accountancy firm.
This has also been implemented into the CPA program and students now study the "Chan & Naylor way" when working to attain their CPA status from the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants.
With the Partners' passion for real estate, Chan & Naylor has developed a system that enables the clients to create wealth through real estate investing. The system is marketed as the Chan & Naylor Wealth for Life Plan. Over 27 years as Practicing Accountants both Edward Chan and David Naylor saw the many mistakes people made in using inappropriate structures for their real estate investments and in seeking ways to prevent these errors they have developed a range of structuring vehicles, that, when used correctly, assist clients in building wealth more successfully and safely.
One of the core products is called the "Property Investors Trust™". Today the "Property Investors Trust™, (or the PIT™ as it is affectionately known), is used and talked about throughout the investing community. It has been developed specifically for property investment purchases and incorporates a number of unique features in its Trust Deed that now make it known as a premium structure for holding real estate investments. The PITs benefits will only be maximized if it is used as advised by Chan & Naylor and its annual accounting is managed correctly by in house experts.
Other unique structuring products and processes have been developed, trademarked and used extensively.
